If you have suffered a pulmonary embolism while taking Yaz birth control, you NEED information.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, a pulmonary embolism is a blockage of an artery in the lungs most often caused by a blood clot in a vein, especially a vein in the leg or in the pelvis or hip area. The most common cause if a blood clot in one of the deep veins in the legs, or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

The U.S. National Library of Medicine also lists the use of birth control pills as one of the risk factors for developing a pulmonary embolism, or blood clot in the lungs.

Symptoms of pulmonary embolism or blood clots in the lungs while taking Yaz include*:

Chest pain - under the breastbone or on one side, especially sharp or stabbing. There also may be a burning, aching, dull, or heavy sensation that may get worse with deep breathing, coughing, eating, bending, or stooping.

Cough - begins suddenly, and may occur with blood or blood-streaking sputum.

Rapid breathing

Rapid heart rate

Shortness of breath
